A Return to the Sacred

You are invited to explore the miracle of sound traveling through your being in the form of mantra meditation. Mantra is a Sanskrit word that means “mind protection.” A mantra is a tool for protecting your mind from the non-productive cycles of thought and action we get so lost in — that rob us of so much of our lives. Cycles that seem endless. The mantra serves as a focusing device that helps make the mind one-pointed, strong and calm.

We are living in a time of great uncertainty, the likes of which we, as individuals, are experiencing for the first time. One of the most valuable skills we can have during times like these is to know how to return to the Sacred, that immovable force of peace, joy and equanimity that lies within. It doesn’t matter what your religious, philosophical or spiritual beliefs are or aren’t, the Sacred is Universal and lives within us all.

You are invited to experience A Return to the Sacred within yourself, during an evening of chanting and mantra meditation, led by Elesa, creator of the well-reviewed three-volume CD mantra meditation teaching tool set titled, How Silent Is This Place.

The entire evening will be spent chanting sacred mantras, most in Sanskrit. To maintain the sacred within, we will hold the silence when not chanting. Each Sanskrit mantra establishes a specific breath pattern and accompanying feeling vibration in the mind, body, spirit complex. For many, chanting becomes a transcendent experience that can lead to moments of pure joy.

At any given time, the human body is over seventy percent water. The brain is approximately 90% water. Since sound travels five times more efficiently through water than through air, the sounds you make while chanting travel directly throughout every cell of your being, every petal of your mind. For many, the experience that results from this immersion in sound is hard to describe in words. You must experience it for yourself.

Mantra is often used interchangeably with the word chanting. When we practice mantra meditation – when we chant – we focus our full attention on the articulation of the sound. Really giving ourselves to the experience of being a musical instrument.

Each mantra establishes a distinct feeling state in the mind and body. The focus is not on whether we make a pretty sound or not, but on how fully and completely we become absorbed in the sound. Saturated in the sound. One with the sound. We immerse ourselves in the sound. We surrender to the sound. We re-establish our connection to the Sacred within through the sound.

You will be led by Elesa in the classical tradition of call and response chanting and will have song books to help guide you. No prior chanting or meditation experience is required. You will also feel delight in the sealing of the evening by Elesa’s playing of the Himalayan singing bowls.

As this experience is held in the home of one of Elesa’s senior students, and is not a “drop-in” event, participation is by invitation only. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Elesa at elesa@thedeepcalm.com stating your interest. Please include your e-mail address and phone number and Elesa will contact you. Thank you.
